Spring in the Midwest

For those of us who live on either side of the St. Croix River, spring doesn’t come gradually with melting snow and slowly climbing temperatures. No, for us, spring comes in with a bang. And that bang announcing the arrival of warm weather and snow-free asphalt is the annual Donnie Smith Custom Bike and Car Show.

2018 signals the 31st anniversary of the well know and well attended Midwest show. Like all successful events, the show has grown and evolved over these 30 years. What started as a simple swap meet with a token bike show, grew first into the biggest bike show and swap meet in the Midwest, and then into the biggest show and swap in the country.

In the past seven years alone, the show has added three major improvements:  First came Happy Hour, a chance to wind down at the end of a long day with friends while listening to national acts. Next came 50,000 sq. feet of custom cars and vendors, The Tattoo Expo – one hall dedicated to all things ink – is the most recent addition to this ever-expanding Bike and Car show.

The next improvement, or addition to the show is big enough to blow the other three right off the road. It’s nothing less than the return of indoor flat track racing to Twin cities.

One thing that hasn’t changed about the show is the timing. The show always happens on or about the last weekend in March. The schedule for 2018 is no different: March 23, Indoor Flat Track Racing. March 24 and 25, the Donnie Smith Bike and Car Show.
